In this project, we were asked to build a simple but functional ADU to be used as a residence for the family’s eldest son. We began the work by obtaining the necessary permits and researching the specific regulations for ADU construction on Coronado Island. No matter how much experience one has, it’s always necessary to update knowledge regarding laws, regulations, and permits, which are constantly changing.

The next step was to condition the soil and construct the foundation. The strength and durability of the structure depend on this essential step. Step by step, the following stages were completed: wall framing, installation of pipes and drains, electrical wiring, exterior cladding and openings, interior partitions, installation of bathroom fixtures and kitchen, etc., which are clearly shown in order in the photos—steadily and without delays.

Everyone is satisfied with the result: the owners, for having obtained an affordable dwelling with all the necessary comforts and, no less important, within a coherent budget. And we, the Evergreen team, for a job well done.
